After scattering our heroes to the wind in various solo adventures and exploring the depths of space, we’re returning to Earth to get the band back together. (And in the film.) Tim + Alex Kill The MCU is back, baby!

Once more we return to the 2010s, for our countdown of the twenty best things – as in, albums, comics, games and other pop cultural artefacts – that were released during it. You can find entries #20-11 here, but join us below the cut as we climb to the very summit of the decade. Warning: it gets emotional.
The decade is over. Long live the decade. Tim + Alex have been doing end-of-year stuff together since [checks notes] December 2010, so doing something to mark the end of the 2010s seemed inevitable. That we’d do it with our usual tardiness and slight over-committal, equally so.
So we put our heads together, came up with a definitive list of the twenty best things made between January 2010 and December 2019, and came up with this. Below you’ll find the first half, and we’ll be posting our top ten shortly afterwards. Enjoy, and we hope you’re having a happy new year.
As part of the Patreon bonus content, we’ve been writing monthly recs. Having brought that to an end at pretty much the midpoint of the year, it seemed like a good time to recap our very favourite things (and write-ups) from the first six months of 2019.
Hey there! The Tim + Alex Patreon has been closed for a month now, and we’ve got a few things we owe. Because shutting down a Patreon page means you can’t post on it any more, we’ll be putting them up here, starting with one last month of recommendations. These are June’s picks, kind of. Honestly, it’s been A Whole Time.
Look at us, we made a podcast!
Tim + Alex teamed up with Comic Book Classroom, a podcast that recaps histories of comics titles, teams and characters, for something a bit special. 44 issues of The Wicked + The Divine, as a 45-minute radio play, with jokes and sketches and really far too much thought poured into it.
It’s called Comic Book Classroom Gets TWATD, and we’re incredibly proud of it. With the final issue dropping next week, this is the perfect way of reminding yourself which bits to cry at.
The MCU turns ten, and decides it’s time to leave home and head out into space. How does the cinematic universe cope with going cosmic, and more importantly, have Tim and Alex made up after their Winter Soldier disagreement?
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014)
Once more, we return with two essays on the latest issue of The Wicked + The Divine. Issue #43 brought us another step closer to the series’ conclusion, with a number of the final plot points falling into place. Tim takes a look at how these revelations fit in with the themes we’ve previously explored, while Alex has a big ol’ think about WicDiv’s succession of villains.
Spoilers all the way up to the end of issue #43, after the cut.
Alex: Every Wednesday on Twitter, I pick a comics issue that caught my eye and do an illustrated thread of little observations and stuff I enjoyed about it. It’s called #oneweekonecomic, and I’m collating each thread into its own blog post.
This week, it’s Jason Aaron/Russell Dauterman/Matt Wilson’s WAR OF THE REALMS #1. This is Marvel’s big crossover event, and Tim has been documenting his readthrough of Aaron’s Thor run on this very blog. So the two of us teamed up to tackle this issue a page at a time.
Spoilers relatively light, and our commentary cuts off before the final reveals, but the page-by-page nature mean you should be able to safely duck out if things start to get too spicy at any point.
The ninth entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also the first major disagreement between Tim + Alex. Will they be able to kiss and make up, or will one of them crash a helicarrier into a river with the other still inside?
